Jack goes to Washington
(to help stop Neurofibromatosis)
Jack recently made a trip with Jake to Washington DC. Like many other battling this awful disease, Jack needs to have periodic exams including MRI’s and scans, etc. In addition to his doctors in Atlanta, he also has a great team of doctors, nurses and staff that help him at Children’s hospital. Doctor appointments are NO fun for anyone, much less a 6 year old so we thought we would have some fun while we were in DC AND do some political lobbying on behalf of Children’s Tumor Foundation.
Jack visited over 11 different senators and their offices to thank them for the support of the CDMRP and research funds for research toward a cure! Jack was invited into the office of all of them and met many staff who were very receptive and helpful. Jack got to sit in Senator Isakson’s chair and got gifts from Senator Chambliss and Senator Kerry. Most importantly, Jack’s mission to raise awareness about the disease was accomplished and each senator was left with a copy of the Children’s Tumor Foundation newsletter that featured a story on Jack himself.
The next day as we were leaving the hotel, Jack got to meet some players from the Tampa Bay Lightning. He got his picture taken with Manager and NHL Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman who wished Jack the best. He then visited the White House, The Washington Monument and The Lincoln Memorial
Jack got good reports from his doctors, lobbied for his cause on Capitol Hill and had lots of fun sight seeing in just a few days! He also had the best time staying over his friend’s the Rau’s with their boy Logan and meeting Rob Clark and Sherry Frank!
